General Information The School of Art, Design and Art History at James Madison University invites applications for a full-time Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Architectural Design. We seek candidates from underrepresented groups who wish to participate in a collaborative community that fosters independent thought and creativity, embraces the diversity of cultural expression, and cultivates excellence in the making and understanding of architectural design. This is a one-year position. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach architectural design studios plus courses in history, theory, practice, representation, visualization and/or materials and methods of contemporary architectural design. These courses utilize skills ranging from research, hand-drawing, software proficiency, as well as digital and analog fabrication with a concentration on hybrid techniques. Dexterity with and knowledge of contemporary global issues/practices in design communication is essential. In order to participate in our collaborative community, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be on campus and available to students 4 days per week during the academic year and serve the program and school. We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Qualifications Required Qualifications:
--- Candidates should minimally hold a professional architecture degree plus a graduate degree such as B.Arch + MS in Design or, M.Arch, or equivalent international terminal degree in architecture.
--- Evidence of an active scholarly and/or design practice with a focus on equitable global practices.
--- Demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Preferred Qualifications:
--- Versatility with contemporary technology and architectural theory.
--- Teaching experience in design at the collegiate level.
