& SafetyJob Summary:As a key player in the Site Leadership Team
reporting directly to the General Manager, the EHS Manager plays an
important role in the overall leadership of the site by advancing a
culture of EHS excellence where everyone is engaged, empowered and
innovative in cultivating a workplace that promotes the safety and
health of our employees, contractors, customers, business, local
community, and the environment.
As a departmental manager, major areas of responsibility include
executing strategies, managing systems, developing people and
delivering effective communications that ensure the Donaldsonville
site is operating within all applicable laws and regulations and in
a safe, environmentally responsible manner. Key areas include
environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, process
safety, emergency response, crisis communications and quality/lab
services. This position is also the liaison with multiple
stakeholders within and outside the organization, in both the
public and private sector.Job Description:Job
Responsibilities:Strategy
- Create a strategic vision for EHS performance and cultural
excellence. Analyze EHS data, assumptions, resources, constraints,
and the EHS culture to develop and evolve a long-range course of
actions to achieve that vision. Define success by determining
outcomes that are critical for success.
- Ensure everyone shares the vision, and foster employee
commitment and engagement in the vision.
- Ensure alignment and coordination of shared work processes with
the business strategy. Ensure activities and behaviors are rooted
in company values.
- Measure performance by identifying key measures of progress,
understanding limits and boundaries of data, and creating mileposts
and symbols to rally support and encourage improvement. Develop
efficient processes for collecting and verifying metrics. Implement
benchmarking processes to drive continuous EHS innovation and
improvement.Systems
- Establish systems and leverage technology to identify, assess,
manage, and mitigate EHS risks and ensure regulatory compliance
with applicable Federal, State, local regulations, and company
policies. Improve EHS processes to ensure efficient and reliable
execution.
- Implement audit processes that assess risk management and
compliance assurance practices and systems.
- Manage EHS Knowledge by determining what skills, knowledge, and
behaviors are needed for EHS success. Facilitate internal knowledge
and skill sharing, and utilize technology to ensure efficient and
effective knowledge development. Ensure EHS training programs
deliver increased engagement, better decision-making, and growth
opportunities.
- Manage change by utilizing communication tools to influence
impacted stakeholders (internal or external) on the benefits of new
ideas and sustaining the change. Proactively plan change by
establishing goals, allocating resources, and measuring results
using tools and processes. Foster feedback loops to ensure the
understanding and effectiveness of the change.
- Prepare and administer annual departmental budget and actively
contribute to the facility budgeting process.People
- Establish the organizational structure of the EHS Team that
aligns with the functional systems and supports the EHS strategy,
including both internal and external resources. Foster a
well-coordinated, integrated, and engaged team. Create
cross-functional teams when needed to ensure appropriate
engagement.
- Establish key roles and responsibilities for Environment,
Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency
Preparedness & Response, and Quality/Lab Services. Establish clear
expectations and holds staff accountable for those expectations.
Determine spans of controls and authority levels. Ensure effective
systems for reporting and feedback.
- Select staff by determining leadership and technical skills
needed and actively recruit the best talent. Foster continuous
development of leadership and technical skills, and create a
learning environment that encourages efficient and effective
processes.
- Facilitate training programs that ensure all CF personnel are
knowledgeable and understand EHS requirements.
- Empower change agents to promote continuous innovations and
improvements.Communication
- Set the communication goal and objectives, identify critical
audiences for communications, and develop key personalized messages
that reinforce the strategy, goals, and priorities utilizing both
internal and external communication resources.
- Develop effective communication channels, techniques, and tools
that will reach the target audience including employees,
contractors, and visitors with the key messages. Understand the
effectiveness and limitations of each channel, technique or tool.
Ensure that effective communication occurs day-to-day as well as
during emergency situations. Develop feedback forums to promote
multidirectional communication.
- Foster employee engagement through communications of the shared
culture and vision. Engage employees and contractors in their work
area to understand and improve their unique situations. Promote a
culture of open communication and continuous learning through
sharing of all EHS incidents/near misses and developing a mature
Human Performance Risk program by sharing both positive and
negative messages, but including possibilities of improvement.
- Communicate risk information to enable other site leaders to
make better decision and better perform their duties.
- Participate in government, industry and community committees to
provide an external forum of communication for representing the
interests of the facility.Position Scope/ Contribution:This
position has a significant impact upon the environmental, personal
safety and process safety performance and culture of the facility.
Ensuring the site is not only operating within all applicable laws
and regulations but is driving continuous improvement is critical
to the successful operation.Required competencies include: Strong
verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated leadership
capabilities, strong change management skills, strong analytical
and decision-making abilities, and ability to deal effectively and
diplomatically with regulatory authorities.Successful incumbents
will have:
- An engineering or science degree in a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in the
environment and safety field, preferably in the chemical industry,
with demonstrated knowledge of safety and environmental
regulations.
- At least 5 years of experience with people management.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. What We
