Job Description:
The Vice President of Community Impact provides organizational
leadership in the integration, management, strategic direction, and
implementation of Capital Area United Way's Community Impact
department. Provides staff leadership, works closely with key
volunteer leaders, corporate and community partners, and nonprofit
and public sector agencies in carrying out the Community Impact
Agenda. The Vice President is responsible for the Community Impact
budget.Other Key Relationships:External: Capital Area corporate,
civic (elected officials and State and local Agency Directors),
volunteer, and faith-based leaders, partner agency providers and
their Board leadership, Local, State, and Federal agency leaders
and key staff; United Way system leaders.Internal: United Way
Staff.Essential Job Functions: Through employee's own efforts or
through the delegation of key staff:
--- Foster the development of a common vision among community
stakeholders throughout the 10-parish region by
o Analyzing current and changing social issues and citizen values
to determine implications for United Way's strategic direction.
o Providing and sharing research-based information in
understandable formats to gain greater community commitment for the
transformation to community level change.
--- Create a Community Impact Agenda by:
o Defining United Way's role in the community's short- and
long-term goals.
o Establishing desired outcomes, objectives, strategies and action
steps.
o Identifying how United Way can best address specific elements of
the plan.
o Coordinate Capital Area United Way's impact in the 10-parish
region by creating and implementing strategies for grant
investment, direct services, advocacy, and volunteerism.
o Establish board and staff-level responsibility for engaging with
the community by establishing United Way's position on critical
public policy issues in an approved advocacy agenda.
o Organize and/or participate in briefings for public officials,
legislators, business leaders and the nonprofit sector to inform
and shape policy related to priorities established in the Community
Impact Agenda.
--- Community Impact and Engagement System Research, Planning and
Integration:
o Ensure system strategic direction and funding priorities are in
alignment with the Community Impact Agenda and Capital Area United
Way Strategic Plan.
o Manage continuous evaluation relating to system issue areas and
strategic plans; integrates the work of the Community Impact
Cabinet and program evaluation teams and staff. Reports results in
a timely manner to the President of the United Way and key United
Way volunteer leadership.
o Responsible for data collection, management, and analysis as
related to system issue areas and activities.
o Conducts ongoing assessments of the system strategic direction
and makes adjustments as necessary.--- Community Impact Leadership
and Management:
o Ensure all impact strategies and decisions are in alignment with
the Community Impact Agenda.
o Provide strategic direction for all CAUW direct services
including but not limited to 211, Care Coordination, Volunteer
Income Tax Assistance, Financial Coaching, Community Outreach
o Manage continuous evaluation, relationships, and outcomes related
to impact decisions and strategies within impact issue areas and
plans; integrates the work of volunteer leaders and staff to ensure
careful grant recommendations.
o Conduct annual review/research, analysis, and report writing of
program and initiatives data as it relates to impact areas.---
Volunteer Leadership and management of Corporate Volunteer
Engagement:
o Manage recruitment and retention of system volunteers.
o Coordinate communications with system volunteers.
o Ensure volunteers are appropriately trained and active in the
Community Impact and Engagement System.
o Provide support to Community Impact chair and co-chair on ongoing
planning related to system work.
o Provides leadership, direction and integration of volunteer and
corporate engagement opportunities and strategies through Volunteer
United.
o Works closely with Resource Development and Communications and
Marketing teams to ensure alignment of corporate engagement
opportunities.--- Community Impact and Engagement Staff:
o Responsible for the management and leadership of Community Impact
staff.
o Plan and integrate the work plan of staff and provide time,
resources, and guidance in completing that work.
o Track the performance versus objectives of staff team.
o Assign projects (initiatives) and tracks progress of department
members.
o Manage and ensure staff's use of CAUW's database
system.Additional Job Functions: Although not Essential Job
Functions, employee may also be responsible for the following from
time to time:
--- Engage in grant writing and development of strategic
partnerships to ensure Community Impact activities, programs, and
initiatives are appropriately funded.

Required Minimum Education and Experience:--- Bachelor's degree in
business administration, social work, education, or a related
field.
--- Ten years of professional experience in successful team and
organizational leadership.
--- Five years of professional experience in program, project and
budget management.
--- Five years of supervisory/management experience.
--- Three years of professional experience in grant writing,
volunteer management, facilitation, negotiation, and public
speaking.
--- Knowledge and use of current Microsoft Office software and its
applications.Preferred Education and Experience:General Physical
Requirements:--- Sedentary Work: Employee is required to exert up
to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of
force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or
otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the
time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally and all
other sedentary criteria are met.--- Physical Activities:
o Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working,
primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in
handling.
o Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken
word. Activities must convey detailed or important spoken
instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
o Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking
levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed
information through oral communication, and make fine
discriminations in sound.--- Visual Acuity: Employee is required to
have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing
and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer
terminal; and/or expansive reading.--- Working Conditions: Employee
is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
Employee must drive to and report to various locations to perform
work.
