Job Description:
JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Assesses, plans, provides and evaluates
staff development and patient/health education activities for
employees and for the age population served, as defined in the
department's scope of service.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
1. Facilitates needs assessment process and assists personnel in
identifying learning needs.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
* Develops, and effectively utilizes competency assessment tools to
determine job knowledge and developmental needs.
* Communicates results of needs assessment activities to
organization managers.
* Maintains required data/documentation of needs assessment
results.
* Demonstrates current knowledge of trends in nursing, patient
care, patient education and staff development.
2. Develops, facilitates, and evaluates orientation for new
employees in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organization
standards.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
* Conducts Orientations for new employees, as assigned.
* Coordinates unit orientation activities with other orientations
to ensure continued, not repetitive learning.
* Prepares and updates orientation learning materials when needed
or assigned.
* Assists new employees in meeting competency validation
requirements.
* Maintains required data/documentation of orientation.
3. Participates in ongoing competency training and validation for
employee groups.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
* Effectively uses needs assessment and organization learning needs
information to develop appropriate competency instruction and
learning tools.
* Maintains required data/documentation of learning results.
* Prepares and updates learning materials when needed or
assigned.
4. Develops, facilitates, and evaluates staff
development/in-service programs and patient/family education
programs designed to achieve specific educational outcomes.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
* Accurately identifies and quantifies education outcome
parameters.
* Effectively coordinates implementation with other staff, as
required.
* Maintains all documentation of educational offering, including
outcome evaluations.
* Participates in the development of patient/family education
materials, as assigned.
5. Performs all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years acute care clinical experience
Two years education or managerial experience preferred
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana RN licensure
Baccalaureate degree preferred.
Masters Degree desirable.
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA
regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited
to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic,
patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient
information related to surgery or appointment schedules,
information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or
public health records.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety
practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to:
Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE,
exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient
identification, administers/collects meds/bloods order,
transports/monitors or observes patients with infusion pumps,
validates, and monitors clinical alarms.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years ICU or ER clinical experience
Two years education or managerial experience preferred.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana RN licensure
Baccalaureate degree preferred.
Master's Degree desirable.
