Job Title: Medical Surgical Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 Year Preferred License: RN License in state of employment or compact Certifications: BLS Required Must-Have: - One year of experience in an inpatient setting, preferably in Med Surg - Ability to provide care to post-surgical patients, including orthopedics, general surgery, and neuro populations - Familiarity with nursing processes, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation Description: The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of the clinical situation. Provides routine and complex care with the ability to focus on long-range goals and plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation. Meets expectations of applicable competencies. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families. Using appropriate protocols, administers medications and treatments and monitors for side effects and effectiveness. Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided. Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers. Identifies issues and resources to support patient care.
