Description
JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION:Responsible for supporting the databases and
ensuring their optimum performance, availability, and security.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as
submitted by the vendor or development team. Responsible for
problem escalation to vendors and third parties as appropriate.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to
include rollout and upgrades. Responsible for providing trend
analysis to the service management team to enable them to make
informed decisions regarding resource management.

JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
1. Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure
services with minimum downtime.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
---Liaise effectively throughout the organization
2. Monitor and complete customer cases for such items as break/fix,
requests for change, and service requests in a timely manner as
dictated by customer support policies.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
---Monitors tickets, e-mail and voicemail for outstanding problems
and responds within 24 hrs of receiving trouble ticket to ensure
excellent customer service.
---Ensure infrastructure issues are appropriately communicated to
the proper personnel
---Work with the IT management and customers to prioritize
requests
---Understand customer business processes.
3. Remain apprised of current and future releases of software
development and the associated technologies
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
---Researches new developments in hardware and software and keeps
abreast of the latest developments and studies involving
computer-related procedures and methods.
---Works collaboratively with both internal and external technical
experts to ensure programs and applications meet the needs of all
customers
4. Performs all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work
experience
Three years previous database administration experience
Proven database administration experience
Experience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systems
Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability
service.
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide
a high availability service.
Experience with multiple database system platforms, preferably
Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
Experience with management and reporting in SSRS, Crystal, and
SSIS
Practical experience in managing the internal and external database
security
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Database Vendor Certifications Preferred (Oracle or SQL Server)
DBA Certification from Respective Vendors Preferred
Good interpersonal/human relations skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Must provide own transportation to multiple customer locations
within established timeframes.
Ability to think critically to determine source of problems and
determine resolution.
Excellent skills of planning, organizing, customer service, record
keeping and controlling cost.
