Job Description:
Part-Time/Adjunct - Black Musical Traditions
Application Due: applications accepted until filled
Location: online
Pay: $1925 per 3-credit course for a Ph.D. or $1625 per 3-credit
course for a Master's degree.
Hours: SPRING 2023 Semester (begin development of course)
Louisiana State University at Alexandria is looking for an adjunct
instructor to develop in an online format and teach the following 3
credit course as part of our Africana Studies program:
AFST 3030 - Black Musical Traditions - A survey of Black African
musical traditions, examining West & Central African musical ideas
and tracing the spread & manifestation of these ideas in the
variety of music of the Atlantic World.
Qualifications: A Masters or Ph.D degree in Music or Africana
Studies or a related field plus teaching experience preferred
Responsibilities:
* Designing an appropriate online class in Moodle according to the
catalog description
* Developing a class syllabus
* Develop a course map (an online course will help the adjunct
learn how to do this)
* Ordering required textbooks before start of class
* Preparing lectures or teaching pdfs and student assignments
* Being available for student conferences
* Presenting instruction based on course description
* Submitting attendance reporting
* Evaluating student performance on assignments and exams in a
timely manner
* Submitting midterm and final grades according to university
regulations
* Providing student evaluation of the course
* Building positive rapport with students and faculty
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to instruct online in Moodle (an online course in how to
use Moodle may be required)
* Availability for student conferences
* Ability to grade assignments and examinations
