OverviewThe Senior Estimator is responsible for the preparation of proposals including cost, technical and commercial responses. Will provide analysis of blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services. Must learn and understand how to interpret safety hazards related to the work and effectively implement a construction strategy. The Estimator may be required to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.Responsibilities *The following are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position.Review and understand the bid documents published by the clientReview data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized listsCompute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectivenessConsult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issuesInterface with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimatesUse estimating procedures and policiesConduct a pre-job checklist and defines scope of workCoordinate disciplines amongst the estimating teamPerform multiple types of quantity take-off Prepare project bid schedulePromote interaction with estimating team by brainstorming constructability of project, maximizing creativity, analyzing production rates, and maximizing indirect costs to reduce duration.Prepare technical and commercial approach to proposal costEnsure contract T&Cs are reviewed by appropriate counsel for exceptions or comments.Assist others as neededWilling to train younger less experienced estimatorsAbility to lead the estimating efforts for large, mutil-million dollar estimates, including cost and proposal preparationOccasional travel, including overnight staysIn-office positionQualifications 15+ years of experienceSitework and concrete experienceGulf-Coast experienceUSACE experienceAble to communicate well within a multi-business unit firm, and with outside owners and vendorsMentalMust have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervisionTalking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policyAbility to use math/complete calculationsWork at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractionsDecision making skills necessaryDetail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
