Description:GEO Prep Academy-Sherwood Campus is a part of a
network of high-quality charter schools managed by the GEO
Foundation. It joins GEO Next Generation High School and GEO Prep
Mid-City, delivering a high-quality K-12 learning experience to
parents and students in the Baton Rouge community. GEO Prep Academy
Sherwood campus is a tuition-free, 3-8 grade public charter school.
Our teachers cultivate critical thinking skills students need to
understand how the world works around them. Our dedicated faculty
are committed to providing an outstanding education for students
each day as they transition from elementary to middle school to
high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with the local
community college, our students will be able to take dual credit
courses with the opportunity to earn college credit at no cost to
the student. Our curriculum and our teaching methods are designed
using Core Knowledge, Teach Like a Champion and blended learning

REPORTS TO/TERM:Principal and Associate Principal and GEO
FoundationThis is a full-time position
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
A Guidance Counselor is required to perform the following
duties:
Requirements: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Valid Louisiana License -
Bachelor's Degree in School Counseling - Two or more years of
successful Guidance Counseling as demonstrated by annual
performance evaluations - Experience in reviewing student
transcripts, scheduling & graduation requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Master's Degree in School Guidance
Counseling - Experience working with high school students in a
non-traditional setting and/or an urban environment
School Test Coordinator with the administration and interpretation
of State/District Testing and Advanced Academic testing programs
(LEAP 2025, ELPT, PSAT, SAT, AP, ACT, etc.)
- Provide clear and understandable explanations of test results
to students and parents
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student
assessmentsMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Guidance
- Make decisions based on what is best for students
- Guide students in developing self-awareness, social skills, and
academic goals as they prepare for high school and beyondCounseling
- Counsel individual students and small groups on issues related
to academic performance, peer relationships, self-esteem, and
emotional regulation
- Monitor students' academic progress, provide advising, and
support their transition from middle to high school
- Assist with high school endorsement selection and academic
planning in alignment with students' strengths and
interestsConsultation
- Work closely with parents, teachers, and administrators to
support students' academic and emotional well-being
- Collaborate with school and community personnel to connect
students with necessary resources
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with school
professionals and community resource representatives
- Utilize a referral process to connect students and families
with specialized services as neededCareer and Personal Development
- Introduce students to various career paths and help them
explore interests through activities and programs designed for
middle school students
- Collaborate with local high schools to provide students with
information about advanced academic opportunities and potential
career pathways
- Support students in developing skills and habits that will
serve them in high school, college, and future careersAssessment
- Serve as the School Test Coordinator with the administration
and interpretation of State/District Testing and Advanced Academic
testing programs (LEAP 2025, ELPT, PSAT, SAT, AP, ACT, etc.)
- Provide clear and understandable explanations of test results

- Create, maintain, and support a learning environment that is
academically, emotionally, and physically safe
- Foster positive individual and group relationships with
students and parents
- Assist in the coordination of social and emotional learning
programs on campus
- Plan and implement guidance and counseling programs that
address the developmental needs of middle school students
- Educate staff, parents, and the community about the school's
guidance program through information sessions and
communications
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and
documents in a timely and organized manner
- Implement programs that address character education, bullying
prevention, mental health awareness, and other key areas relevant
to middle school students
- Use data-driven decision-making to analyze student needs and
adjust programming accordinglyAdministration
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law,
State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the guidance and
counseling area
- Follow all district and campus routines and
regulationsProfessional
- Treat all students, teachers, parents, and staff with
respect
- Uphold ethical and legal standards and model professional,
responsible behavior
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with
best practices in middle school counseling
