Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking an experienced Registered Professional Land Surveyor to support their Field Services Team in Houston.

Authorization to work lawfully in the US is required.

The Registered Professional Land Surveyor a cts in the capacity of a Project Manager and represents the Survey Department on projects executed by Wood Field Services Business Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with internal and external business partners to develop the Survey technical scope of the project(s).
  • Prepares budgets and schedules for pipeline projects and tracks survey deliverables against the project budget and milestones.
  • Communicates the Survey scope and budget details to the supervisory personnel in the field.
  • Attends project meetings and reports on progress and budget status.
  • Responsible for overall quality of survey deliverables and oversees Survey technical staff assigned to the project(s) being managed.
  • Provides oversight of the generation of land base files and will review, sign, and certify property plats necessary to acquire the rights, both temporary and permanent, to construct the pipeline and its facilities.
  • Writes final legal descriptions and reviews survey plats for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provides periodic field observation as necessary.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in the pipeline surveying industry including topographic and boundary surveys, ALTA (American Land Title Assoc) surveys, platting, construction staking, pipeline as-built surveying procedures, as-built deliverables and preparing legal descriptions.
    • Must be registered as a Land Surveyor in Texas, other states a plus. Technical degree preferred.
    • Experience in pipeline surveying industry is essential and desired to manage project(s) and for advancement.
    • Vast knowledge of land surveying practices as they apply to the pipeline industry.
    • Working knowledge of pipeline facilities, appurtenances and fabrication is a plus.
    • Familiar with pipeline industry codes and standards
    • Proficiency in all levels of electronic data collection techniques including GPS control networks, coordinate systems, processing and compiling preliminary and as-built construction survey data.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
    • Strong organizational skills and computer proficiency
    • Demonstrated ability to apply the principles of effective project management.
    • Ability to communicate and present information to clients and the public.
    • Functions in lead capacity and mentors' others and may be assigned to check the work of less experienced personnel on assigned projects.
    • Work consists of complex procedures and tasks where analytical ability is required to assess the situation and identify appropriate actions to follow.
    • Evaluates current procedures and recommends changes to improve the efficiency of planning and scheduling projects.
    • Frequently assists others in the resolution of more complex problems and technical issues.
    • Usually operates with broad latitude for independent work, so errors may not be detected until subsequent review.
    • Errors will most likely result in schedule delays or increased costs and may affect customer satisfaction.
    • Receives general supervision from Assistant Manager and Department Manager to track major project milestone and is responsible for the survey deliverables to meet the project schedule.
    • Provides immediate supervision for two or more full-time employees.
    • Participates in a variety of personnel decisions including employment, performance and salary reviews, discipline, and termination.
    • Schedules and monitors work to ensure completion on schedule and within budget.
    • Boundary and topographic data collection methods to generate CAD drawing packages for pipeline projects is essential.
