Job Posting Title:Hvac/Control Technician Master Position Type:Classified Department:LSUAM FA - FPO - FS - PPO - Power Plant (Bryan David Andries (00054308) (Inherited)) Work Location:LSU - Baton Rouge Pay Grade:Classified Technician and Skilled Trades This classified position reports to the Facility Maintenance Manager for LSU Facility Services - Powerhouse, Highland Utilities, South Campus, and Nicholson Gateway chiller plants. This position provides stationary equipment maintenance, operation, and repairs at an advanced level to provide the LSU main campus with consistent, reliable utilities for HVAC use. These utilities include chilled water, steam, domestic hot water, instrument air, and electricity. Job Duties: 45%- Position repairs and calibrates equipment controls for many different commercial/industrial electrical power generation and central utility plant HVAC equipment. This equipment includes gas turbines, electrical power generators, centrifugal chilled water machines, steam boilers, pumps, cooling towers, compressed air systems, motor starters, electrical panels, and breakers. 10%- Position uses a wide array of tools and equipment for calibration and troubleshooting of electrical, pneumatic, water flow, and pressure sensor issues. 10%- Position safety operates equipment ( forklifts, man lifts, and golf cart ) for maintenance and repair needs on the plant. 10%- Position reviews schematics, equipment drawings, and building drawings to make necessary repairs to equipment. 10%- Position may at times oversee the repairs of plant equipment being done by contractors. Position may also assist in these repairs as needed. 10%- Position may be used in an emergency circumstance as a plant operator to take readings, monitor and make adjustments to plant equipment. Report problems and make recommendations to reduce operation and maintenance cost while improving system operation. 5%- Perform clean up duties and other task as assigned by the Facility Maintenance Manager. Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems. SUBSTITUTIONS: Training in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis. Preferred Qualifications: Education Level- High School Diploma Specific Degree- Successfully completed vocational trades classes in HVAC Years of Experience- 5 years in operations and/or maintenance of related stationary equipment. Specific Experience- Commercial/industrial experience in maintenance of building heating/cooling stationary equipment and/or electrical power generation. Special or Physical Qualifications: Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. Person must be able to work during adverse weather conditions, climb ladders, open/close valves, walk up several flights of stairs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; be capable of ending their back; and/or carry 50 lbs of weight 100 feet successfully. Must be willing to work 12 hours shifts, night and weekends should the need come up. Certifications/Licenses: 608 Refrigerant Certification- License to handle different types of refrigerant.
